Betty Argus, nee Gregorakos, passed on June 2, 2022, age 92. Beloved wife of late Peter L. Argus for 71 years. Betty was born on January 14,1930 in Petrina Greece to the late George and late Stella Gregorakos. Loving mother of Louis (Diane) Argus, George Argus and Valerie (Alan) Stevens. Cherished grandmother (Yiayia) of Matthew (Martina) Stevens, Jonathan Stevens, Nicole Argus and Peter (Molly) Argus. Loving great grandmother (Pros Yiayia) of Vela and Vincent Stevens and Tristan Swaney. Dear stepsister of the late Steve Gregorakos and dear sister of the late Helen (late Peter) Chiagouris. Dear sister-in-law of the late Rita (late Peter) Stephens.

Betty’s mother passed on when Betty was 8 years old. Betty spent much of her childhood helping her family. Betty was 18 years old when her Uncle Chris and Aunt Sophie Kappas request she come to the United States. Chris and Sophie contacted Peter (Betty’s husband) through his brother-in-law Peter Stephens for assistance in Betty’s transport. Betty arrived at Ellis Island unoccompanied in December of 1948. Betty then proceeded to Chicago. Peter fell in love with Betty immediately and they were married on March 3rd. 1949. Betty and Peter bought their first and only home of 61 years in Skokie where they raised their three children. Betty worked at Ohmite Manufacturing Company for over 35 years. Betty was an amazing cook and baker. We will all remember her Yiayia bags when she’d visit her family and friends. Betty’s bags would include feta (as well as other Greek cheeses) kalamata olives and plenty of homemade delicious treats. She loved to garden and entertain outdoors as well as inside their beautiful home. Betty made sure that members of her family received one of her hand knit blankets. Betty loved to walk, especially along Lake Michigan with her husband Peter.
