Featured Obituary:

James Alex Levy, 87, passed away peacefully at his home November 6, 2022. He spent his final days surrounded by family and loved ones including his wife of 65 years, Diane. "Papa Jim" was born February 3, 1935 to Louis and Theresa Levy. Jim grew up in Winnetka and attended nearby New Trier High School. Jim loved music and was a member of the high school band. It was at New Trier that he met Diane. Jim went on to attend Indiana University and hoped Diane would follow two years later. She did not, but they remained an item and would marry at the Standard Club in Chicago in June of 1957.

After majoring in business at Indiana, Jim would join the family magazine and distribution business. Jim was a third generation magazine man following his father, and grandfather Joseph. Jim started in the warehouse at Chas. Levy Circulating Company before ultimately becoming President of North Shore Distributors, Inc. in Wheeling, IL. His career in the magazine business spanned six decades and saw incredible growth and success. He was always considered tough but fair and treated employees like family, often hiring multiple generations. His Chestnut Court Bookstore in Highland Park was a local staple and meeting place for many years.

Papa Jim cherished his family, always putting their needs before his own. And his love for Diane was one for the ages. One could not say Jim without adding Diane. Jim and Diane traveled the world over with great friends and family during their 65 incredible years together. When not traveling, you could see Jim and Diane at every sporting event and dance recital they could attend. Jim loved to garden, listen to the Cubs on the radio and tell a good story. He loved to joke with friends and told it like it was. He loved dogs and especially his little Lucy.
