The Skokie board of trustees will vote on an ordinance that would ban assault weapons Monday, with a specific definition of assault rifles and shotguns, as well as requiring other types of weapons to be stored securely, the Skokie Review reports.
The village attorney said the village has no intention of checking homes to comply with the ban, the newspaper said.
Skokie would need to have an ordinance in place within 10 days of the date which Gov. Pat Quinn signs the concealed carry law, if he does, passed by the General Assembly in late May. Quinn has until July 9 to do so, but if municipalities miss that 10-day window of time, they would lose the opportunity to enact such an ordinance.

Many Skokie residents showed up at the last board meeting because of this issue, and 16 of them spoke passionately for and against a proposed ban.
