Two Dancers Take Honors, Qualify for Showstopper Nationals

Both are from the Devonshire Cultural Center's dance program.


Two dancers from the Skokie Park District's Devonshire Dance Team recently took top state honors, which qualify them for national competition, according to the park district.

The team recently competed at Showstopper Dance Championships at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, against dozens of dance studios from around the state, with winners qualifying for the national finals.

Showstopper is the largest dance competition in the country, with more than 100,000 participants nationwide.

Natalia Semchuk (left) received first place overall in the Senior (ages 14-18) Performance Solo competition, as well as a platinum award for her pointe solo.

Mikki Stotter (right) earned third place overall in Senior Performance Solo, in addition to a gold award for her lyrical solo. Both dancers are now qualified for the national finals in July. 

The dance team is led by dance instructor Jessica Sawyer and dance supervisor  Caryn Watson.
