2 Men, Both 21, Dead After Shooting On Stevenson Expressway

Illinois State Police closed down a portion of Interstate 55 for 5 hours to investigate a fatal shooting and car crash.

SOUTH SIDE, IL — Two 21-year-old men are dead after a double shooting on the Stevenson Expressway late Tuesday night, state police announced.

The shooting occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Wentworth Avenue in the Armor Square neighborhood around 11:38 p.m., officials said.

Illinois State Police responded to reports of a shooting and found the men in a crashed car under the Dan Ryan Expressway. Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that the driver and his passenger were shot and crashed the vehicle after suffering life-threatening injures.

All lanes in the area were shut down for about five hours while state and city police investigated the scene. Traffic was diverted from I-55 to Interstate 94 and the China Town Feeder until around 4:40 a.m.
