Chicago Firetruck Hit By Stray Bullet At Crash Scene: Cops

A Chicago firefighter was cut by flying glass from the incident early Thursday in South Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL — The windshield of a Chicago firetruck was hit by a stray bullet after a man allegedly fired shots following a two-car crash Thursay on the South Side, the Chicago Tribune reports. A firefighter suffered a cut on his nose from the glass shrapnel from the windhield, the report added.

According to police, the accident happened around 2:25 a.m. Thursday, July 27, in the 7900 block of South Yates Avenue of the South Chicago neighborhood, and three firetrucks responded to the scene, the report stated. An argument started when one of the individuals involved in the crash asked a man to come over, the report added. Once firefighters arrived, the man allegedly pulled a gun from a light blue Ford Marauder parked at a nearby Subway restaurant, the report stated. He then allegedly opened fire from the parking lot, the report added.

Witnesses reported hearing three shots fired, and police arrested the man and recovered a firearm from the scnene, the report stated. One of the firefighters at the scene — a 12-year veteran of the department — said this was the second time this type of thing has happened to him on the job, the report added.
