SOUTH SIDE — A Far South Side man is charged with first-degree murder after he admitted to pouring gasoline on a woman and lighting her on fire last month, Chicago police announced Friday.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, 35-year-old Luevenia Gardner died on May 21 after she was injured in a fire at her South Deering home on April 16. Gardner was taken to Trinity Hospital after she ran two blocks to the Engine 81 firehouse with burn wounds.

Henry Taylor, 31, turned himself in to police on Wednesday after warrant was issued for his arrest, police said. According to officials, Gardner and Taylor lived at the same address, though police couldn't say whether the two were in a relationship. Police did say a "domestic argument" led to the incident.
