Teen, 17, Fatally Shoots Himself At South Side Home Day Care Center

UPDATED: The victim died from a self-inficted gunshot wound to the head Tuesday afternoon, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A teen shot and killed himself Tuesday at a South Side home day care center, according to ABC 7 Eyewitness News. The 17-year-old victim died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at the day care center in the 6500 block of South Oakley Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, the report stated. No one else was hurt in the incident, the report added.

Paramedics were still at the scene of the shooting as of 1 p.m., the report stated. Chicago police detectives are handling the shooting — which happened around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 — as a death investigation, the Chicago Tribune reports.

It wasn't known if there were other children in the house or at day care center at the time of the shooting, according to the Tribune. No children were seen outside the home while emergency crews were at the scene, the report added.
