2 Children Injured After Mom Drives Drunk, Crashes Car: Police

KANE COUNTY, IL — A Kane County mother faces drunken driving and endangering the life of a child charges in connection with allegations she drove and crashed her car while under the influence of alcohol while two children, ages 7 and 8 years old, were in her vehicle.

Lisa Tegeler, 39, and the two young children were all injured in the collision, which happened at about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The single-vehicle collision happened when the Honda CRV, driven by Tegeler, drove off Hughes Road in Blackberry Township while heading west on the roadway, according to authorities. The CRV flipped on its side and was found in a ditch.

The children, who were wearing seatbelts, were taken to Delnor Hospital and sustained bruising and head injuries. Both children were treated for their injuries and then released to family members.

Tegeler, of the 39W000 block of Herrington Boulevard in Blackberry Township, was also taken to Delnor Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Tegler has been charged with five counts of aggravated DUI - third violation, five counts of aggravated DUI - great bodily harm, 10 counts of aggravated DUI - bodily harm to child under 16, five counts of DUI and two counts of endangering the life of a child. She is also accused of violating an order of protection, since she'd been ordered not to consume alcohol or drugs.

She has also been charged for possession of marijuana by a driver and operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device, police said.
