Dog Saved From Icy Pond Near St. Charles

The Fox River and Countryside Fire Department was called to the pond on Monday morning.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Firefighters saved a husky from a pond near St. Charles on Monday morning.

The Fox River and Countryside Fire Department was called to the pond at around 7:30 a.m. after receiving reports for dog barking in a pond in unincorporated St. Charles, WGN News is reporting. The dog did not have a collar on but does have a microchip.

Deputy Chief Jim Niesel, deputy chief with the fire protection district, said a firefighter wearing an exposure suit crawled onto the ice and lifted the dog out from the pond, which was behind a house in the 36W400 block of Hunters Gate Road, according to the Daily Herald. The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital in Elgin.

Officials are working to identify the dog's owner.
