64 Coronavirus Cases In St. Charles D303 Since Schools Reopened

St. Charles North reported two new coronavirus cases Tuesday, its first day of in-person classes since the pandemic started.

ST. CHARLES, IL — More than 60 people within St. Charles District 303 tested positive for the coronavirus in the first two months of the new school year.

Eighteen of the district's 64 total cases were active as of Tuesday. The dashboard on Friday showed 14 active cases and 52 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Restrictions Near As Positivity Rate Tops 8% In Kane-DuPage

Since Friday, active-case counts have also grown at Thompson and Wredling middle schools, as well as at Norton Creek, Wasco, Lincoln and Bell Graham elementary schools.

District 303 brought back some elementary and middle school students Aug. 19, while students at St. Charles North and East high schools were welcomed back to class Tuesday for the first since March.

The district’s two middle schools account for one-third of its active cases, with three each at Thompson and Wredling, according to the dashboard. Thompson has also recorded more cases (11) than any other school in the district over the first two months of the year.

The district’s coronavirus dashboard on Tuesday showed no active cases at St. Charles East, though three students tested positive for the coronavirus while the school was operating remotely for the first two months of the new year.

District 303 officials have previously told students to quarantine if they spent at least 15 minutes within 6 feet of anyone who has tested positive.
