After 6 Months On Paid Leave, Campton Hills Police Chief Resigns

Former police chief Steven Miller sent a two-sentence email announcing his resignation to village officials in Campton Hills.

CAMPTON HILLS, IL — After spending six month on paid leave amid an Illinois State Police investigation into "concerning potential criminal violations and misconduct that relate to your employment with the village," former Campton Hills Police Chief Steven Millar resigned in a two-sentence email last month.

Shaw Local News Network obtained the Jan. 22. email through a Freedom of Information Act request. The email read: “I am hereby tendering my resignation, via this email, from the Village of Campton Hills. Please advise me of when and where I need to sign official paperwork."

In a response to Millar via email, Village Administrator Mark Rooney wrote, “Steve, on behalf of the Village of Campton Hills, I accept your resignation effective immediately.”

The Illinois State Police investigation into Miller began on May 25, and included a search of the evidence room and an interview with Miller, and Miller was placed on paid administrative leave on July 6, according to the Shaw Local News Network article.
