ELGIN, IL — The Kane County Sheriff's Department along with other local agencies are looking for an inmate who escaped a transport van while being taken to the county jail.
Authorities said the man, identified as 21-year-old Hugo R. Avila was last seen near Randall Road and Route 64 at around 1:05 p.m., Sheriff Ron Hain and St. Charles officials said in a news release.
Avila was charged Monday with aggravated fleeing from a police officer, speeding 21 miles per hour over the speed limit and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to Kane County court records. Records show Avila was remanded into custody after his Tuesday bond hearing.
