Coronavirus Outbreak Under Control At Kane Co. Jail: Sheriff
No new coronavirus cases were detected at the jail during the most recent tests Monday. The jail recorded its first cases last month.
ST. CHARLES, IL — A month after announcing the first coronavirus cases among people being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center, Sheriff Ron Hain said Thursday that the facility is now clear of the virus.
The county jail went into lockdown Aug. 14 after two people tested positive and several others showed coronavirus-like symptoms.

Those positive tests were the first among people being held at the jail since the coronavirus outbreak started in March. Two corrections officers and a contracted medical employee previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

Thirty of the 387 people being held at the jail tested positive for the coronavirus following the initial outbreak, Hain said in a news release.
Everyone at the jail was tested for the coronavirus each week, with cases dropping to 27 by Aug. 24, six by Aug. 31 and just one case by Sept. 8, Hain said. The most recent round of testing Monday detected no coronavirus cases at the jail, according to the sheriff.

Those who tested positive showed mild symptoms including sore throats, elevated temperatures and some respiratory discomfort, Hain said.
