Increase In Kane County Felony Filings During 2019: Report

Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon shared the number of felony filings in 2019 compared to 2018 during a recent media briefing.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon reported county prosecutors filed more felony filings in 2019 than during 2018, according to Kane County Chronicle. While the Kane County State's Attorney's office is expected to release its annual report next month, McMahon shared the statistics during a recent media briefing, the news report said. McMahon specified Kane County prosecutors filed 2,604 felony filings in 2019, up from 2,494 in 2018, citing Aurora, Elgin, the Kane County Sheriff's Office, Carpentersville and St. Charles as the top five law enforcement agencies that refer cases to the Kane County State's Attorney's office, Kane County Chronicle reported.

McMahon added that although felony filings aren't happening in a specific area, it's something his office is looking at. But despite the increase in felony filings, the number of misdemeanors continues to decrease, according to the news report.
