Kane County to Sponsor Heroin Forum

The Kane County Coroner and Kane County Sheriff have teamed with A Man in Recovery to present info to the community.

Kane County Sheriff Don Kramer and Kane County Coroner Rob Russell have partnered with a local advocacy group to host an anti-heroin forum. The forum, which will have an emphasis in arming citizens with some solutions to the problem, will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., March 10.

The local advocacy group - A Man in Recovery is led by Tim Ryan, a a recovering heroin addict who has been clean for several years. While Ryan is in recovery, he lost his son to the heroin epidemic.

The event will include information on what to look for, how to know if a loved one is using heroin and information about Narcan. Narcan is the name brand of naloxone hydrochloride, a drug used to block the effects of opiods and reverse an overdose.

The event will take place at the Batavia VFW, 645 South River Street (Rt. 25) in Batavia.

“There are some great things going on out there on Heroin Awareness and Education,” Russell said in a written release. “Our focus is to support those efforts, work with the advocacy groups with an emphasis in arming people with possible solutions.

“Sheriff Kramer has been a staunch ally in trying to help families deal with the issue. I appreciate his concern and leadership in this fight.”

In addition to expert speakers, there will also be demonstrations done by K9 Confidential (Drug Dog Detection) and Dare2Know (early drug detection options).

There will be free gift bags for the first 300 guests.
