League Of Women Voters To Host Candidate Forum

The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, at Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Avenue, Batavia.

KANE COUNTY, IL — The Leagues of Women Voters of the Aurora Area, Elgin Area and Centra Kane County will co-host a hybrid candidate forum on Oct. 9.

The forum will feature candidates from Illinois 11th Congressional District, Illinois House of Representatives District 49, Illinois State Senate District 25, and Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit 4th Subcircuit. Following the candidate forum, there will be a short presentation by Kane County Forest Preserve District staff to explain the Land Acquisition & Preserve Improvement Referendum appearing on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.

The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, at Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Avenue, Batavia, according to a news release from the League of Women Voters. Residents are encouraged to participate by joining the live in-person audience, watching the live-stream on BATV or view the recording on the BATV YouTube Channel.

The candidate forum will be moderated by a member of the League of Women Voters. Candidates will be given an opportunity to provide one-minute opening statements, after which time the candidates will be presented with a series of questions, according to the news release.

Candidates will be given one minute to respond to each question they receive. Following questions, each candidate will be given one minute for a closing statement.

Members of the public wishing to submit questions for the candidates may do so in writing during the live in-person events, according to the news release.

A recording of the program will be posted on the websites of the hosting Leagues and will be available for viewing on the IL Voter Guide website, which is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund.

“The League of Women Voters is well respected for its tradition of conducting non-partisan candidate forums. We are excited to provide the candidates this important opportunity to share their background and policy views with voters in their districts," said Patti Lackman, Voter Service Chair of the LWV of Central Kane County.

Here are some important dates to know for the upcoming election:

  • September 26: First day of early voting at Kane County Elections main office and Aurora satellite.
  • October 8, 2024: Last day to register to vote using the regular process.
  • October 9 – November 4, 2024: Grace period registration and voting at designated sites.
  • October 21, 2024: First day that early voting is expanded to remaining early voting sites.
  • November 5, 2024: Election Day
