Man Charged In Connection With Hit-And-Run, Injuring Motorcyclist

ST. CHARLES, IL — A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash last week that left a motorcyclist critically injured, Kane County Sheriff's Office investigators said Monday.

Ruben Campuzano, 47, has been charged with multiple felony counts including aggravated reckless driving, failure to report an injury accident and driving with a suspended license.

Police were called to the scene of a Harley Davidson motorcycle struck by an SUV at Route 25 and Gilberts Street at around 4:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13. There, first responders found a 72-year-old man in the street. The motorcyclist was taken to an Elgin area hospital were he is still listed in critical condition.

Surveillance footage and eyewitness statements led police to Campuzano after releasing an image of his vehicle last week, officials said. A witness came forward with information that led to the Elgin resident's whereabouts.

Campuzano has admitted to striking the motorcyclist and not stopping because he did not have a valid driver's license, investigators said.

He is being held in the Kane County jail and is scheduled to appear next in court on Sept. 29, records show.
