Portion Of South Avenue In St. Charles To Close March 22

The closure to remove and replace a culvert is anticipated to last approximately five weeks.

Beginning March 22, 2021, a portion of South Ave. will be closed just east of 7th Ave. for culvert removal and replacement, as part of the 7th Avenue Creek Project. This closure is anticipated to last approximately five weeks.

The 7th Avenue Creek Project addresses large-scale flooding along the 7th Ave. Creek between S. 10th Ave. and Indiana Ave. Site preparation is underway. The project includes:

  • Restoring a natural meandering creek from S. 10th Ave. to Washington Avenue
  • Stabilizing stream banks
  • Upsizing culverts underneath Illinois, Indiana, and South Avenues
  • Removing a portion of S. 9th Avenue between E. Main Street and Illinois Ave.
  • Adding a walking path along the creek between S. 10th Avenue and Indiana Avenue.
