Public Hearing On Zoning For St. Charles Pot Retailers Scheduled
The public hearing will be held in City Council Chambers, 2 E. Main Street, Tuesday, Sept. 17.
ST. CHARLES, IL — A public hearing on zoning for recreational cannabis dispensaries in St. Charles will be held in City Council Chambers at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, one month after alderman voted 6 to 3 in favor of beginning the process of amending the City's zoning ordinance, according to a release from the Village. The zoning applies to two recreational cannabis sales facilities, specifically one on the east side of St. Charles and one on the west side, the release said.
According to the City, the purpose of next week's public hearing is to hear testimony and propose amendments to the City Council for Title 17 — "Zoning" of City's the Zoning Ordinance.

Marijuana will be available over the counter to more than 12 million people age 21 and older in Illinois — more than the population of Washington and Oregon combined and twice as many people as Colorado — starting Jan. 1. Patch recently reported the law gives a head start to established medical marijuana dispensaries for the initial year of legal weed by allowing them first crack at the recreational market. Municipalities can choose whether to allow recreational cannabis stores in their areas, the number of stores, and location.
