Public Invited To Prescribed Burn Demonstration In St. Charles

The Kane County Forest Preserve District will host the burn at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in March or April.

KANE COUNTY, IL —Have you ever wanted to see a prescribed fire up close?

Kane County Forest Preserve District senior restoration technician Peter Dall and district staff is inviting the public to a narrated prescribe fire demonstration at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve.

Program details, such as date and time, will be released 24-48 hours in advance via social media and through our online registration system. This demonstration is weather dependent, but is anticipated to run on a weekday afternoon in mid-March to early April, according to a news release from the forest preserve district.

To obtain timely program information, registration is strongly suggested and can be done on the Kane County Forest Preserver District website.

During the prescribed burn, you’ll see a burn crew in action and learn about the preparation, process and tools and equipment necessary for a successful fire. You will also learn about the history and value of this exciting land management practice, according to the news release.

Viewing will take place near the 30-acre burn unit. Those stopping out can bring your own lawn chair, and children 13 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

For safety purposes, attendees must park their vehicle in the lot, and viewing from the street or preserve entrance road will not be permitted.

LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve is located at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.
