Q Center Lays Off 327 Workers In St. Charles Due To Coronavirus
The renowned conference center in St. Charles initially furloughed more than 300 workers before permanently laying them off.
ST. CHARLES, IL — More than 300 employees at the Q Center in St. Charles are out of a job after the company made their furloughs permanent.
Operators Q Center LLC notified the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in June that it was temporarily furloughing 322 employees at the renowned conference center. A month later, the company told state officials it was laying off all 322 workers who were furloughed, along with five who hadn’t previously been furloughed.

Under the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act — better known as the WARN Act — companies must notify the state when they plan mass layoffs or closures.

The 327 former Q Center employees were among more than 18,000 Illinois employees who permanently lost their jobs or were temporarily furloughed during July. In almost all cases, companies cited “COVID-19” as their reason for laying off workers.

A spokesperson for Q Center LLC did not immediately respond Wednesday to Patch’s request for comment about the layoffs.
