Return To Class Imminent? St. Charles High Schools Eye New Plan

District 303 officials discussed a plan Monday that could see up to half of high school students return for in-person learning by Oct. 19.

ST. CHARLES, IL — High schools in St. Charles District 303 could have up to half of their students back in classrooms within a month, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle.

After a group of parents and students once again rallied for in-person learning at St. Charles North and East high schools, the District 303 school board considered a plan that would bring a quarter of the schools’ students back next month, the report states.

The proposal calls for all high school students to attend classes remotely on Mondays, with a blend of in-person and remote learning for the rest of the week, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Students would be required to wear masks at all times while inside school facilities and would not be allowed to use their lockers or gather in halls, the report states.

District 303 officials plan to send questionnaires Wednesday to high school families to gauge whether they want to learn in person or remotely during the coronavirus pandemic, the report states. Families must respond by Sept. 30.

If the plan is approved, it would cost the district about $625,000 to implement, with schools needing to buy new cameras and hire additional staff members, like classroom assistants, the report states.
