St. Charles Extends Outdoor Dining Permits To Support Restaurants

ST. CHARLES, IL — St. Charles restaurants will be allowed to keep their outdoor dining areas throughout the winter, as long as new restrictions are not triggered by rising coronavirus cases.

The St. Charles City Council on Monday unanimously approved an ordinance extending temporary outdoor dining permits through Phase 4 of Illinois’ reopening plan, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle.

The temporary permits will expire if the state moves to Phase 3 or Phase 5, or if public health officials impose new coronavirus restrictions on Region 8, which is made up of Kane and DuPage counties.

Under the new ordinance, businesses can apply to have enclosed and heated tents on their property. Enclosed tents are characterized as indoor dining by the Illinois Department of Public Health, meaning they are subject to the same restrictions.
