St. Charles Eyes End To Midnight Curfew For Bars, Restaurants
Aldermen voted 7-3 to recommend a new city ordinance that would undo a temporary curfew requiring bars and restaurants to close by 12 a.m.
ST. CHARLES, IL — Bar and restaurant owners in St. Charles have been pleading with city officials for weeks to overturn a temporary curfew on late-night establishments. And it appears to be working.
The St. Charles City Council voted 7-3 Monday to recommend a new ordinance that would overturn the curfew, which forces all businesses with late-night liquor permits to close their doors by midnight instead of 2 a.m., the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Aldermen signaled they will look to let bars stay open until 2 a.m., though late-night establishments would not be allowed to welcome any new customers after midnight, the report states. The City Council is expected to vote on the ordinance at its Oct. 19 meeting.

The city’s positivity rate was above 6 percent when Mayor Raymond Rogina imposed the curfew, but that rate has dropped 4.6 percent since, the Chronicle reports.
