St. Charles Man Charged After 70-Year-Old Breaks Hip During Fight

Reports say the two men exchanged angry words outside a business, before the younger man punched the older man, causing him to fall.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A 35-year-old St. Charles man has been charged with several counts of aggravated battery stemming from accusations that he punched a 70-year-old man in the face, causing the elderly man to fall and break his hip during an argument outside a business in the 600 block of Geneva Road, according to the Office of the Kane County State's Attorney. Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged Brandon F. Bruhn, of the 1900 block of Moore Avenue, with aggravated battery, a Class 2 felony; three counts of aggravated battery, a class 3 felony; and two counts of battery, a misdemeanor.

According to a release from the Office of the Kane County State's Attorney, Kane County prosecutors and the St. Charles Police Department report that around noon on Friday, March 1, Bruhn and the victim got into a verbal altercation in the parking lot of the business, before Bruhn punched him in the face. This caused a laceration in the elderly man's face, and also caused the victim to fracture his hip, the state attorney's office said.

According to a release, a Kane County judge set Bruhn’s bail at $25,000 with 10 percent to apply
for bond, which Bruhn posted, securing his release from the Kane County Jail. Bruhn was ordered to have no contact with the victim and the victim's spouse while out on bond, and his next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. March 8, the release said.
