St. Charles Officials Approve Library Expansion Plan
Construction work for the St. Charles library expansion project is expected to begin this spring, according to reports.
ST. CHARLES, IL — During Tuesday's St. Charles City Council meeting, aldermen unanimously voted in favor of library officials proceeding with an $18.6 million library expansion project. According to Kane County Chronicle, the expansion plans include a one-story, 3,225 square-foot addition to the library's north side, and a two-story, 2,840 square-foot addition at the southeast corner of the building. The news report added that the project already has 73 percent of its funding through the library's special reserve funds, and through the selling of bonds.
Construction work is expected to start this spring, and take 14 to 15 months, during which the library will lease space in Haines Middle School.
Before plans were approved, they were recently revised and presented to the City Council's Planning and Development Committee.
