St. Charles Residents Can Save $100 on Energy-Saving 'Smart' Thermostats

City officials are encouraging residents interested in energy savings to take advantage of a $100 savings offer.

ST. CHARLES, IL - City officials are encouraging residents interested in energy savings to take advantage of a $100 savings offer on a high-tech thermostat.

Thanks to grant funding from St. Charles' electricity supplier, the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, residents who buy and install a Nest smart thermostat will qualify for a $50 rebate. That break, combined with a separate $50 rebate offer from Nicor, brings total cost savings to $100.

The Nest is a wifi-connected thermostat that learns the daily pattern of customers' air conditioning or heat settings. It also lets homeowners manage those settings from their computers or smart phones, where they can monitor energy use and learn ways to conserve.
