Woman Guilty In Sex Assault Case In Kane County

KANE COUNTY, IL - A Kane County judge has found Maricela Garcia guilty predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated battery of a child and domestic battery.

Garcia waived her right to a jury trial.

Prosecutors say between May 7 and May 8, 2021, Garcia used an object to penetrate the sex organ of the victim, who was under the age of 13 at the time. The victim and defendant resided in the same household, authorities said.

Garcia now faces a sentence of between 6 and 60 years in prison.

She is next expected in court on November 22 for motions and sentencing.
