Fall FOX Show "The Mob Doctor" Films in Countryside

The former Flame restaurant's parking lot was filled with trailers as crews filmed inside for the Chicago-set 2012-2013 series.

The former Flame restaurant in Countryside (803 Joliet Rd.) was busy throughout Wednesday with trailers and film crews as the building served as a location for the filming of scenes from the FOX network’s fall TV show “The Mob Doctor.”

Filming was scheduled from 6:00 a.m. up through midnight. Countryside police were on hand to ensure security and safety. Organizations involved included Woodridge Productions, Inc. (of Chicago) and Sony Pictures Television.

The Flame closed at the beginning of 2012 due to the passing of its operator, Nanci Makris of Indian Head Park.

“The Mob Doctor” is set in Chicago and is about a young thoracic surgeon named Grace Devlin (Jordana Spiro) who works at a respected Windy City hospital while being forced to moonlight as a physician for the city’s mafia.

“Smart and self-assured, [Devlin] is heralded as one of the country's most promising young surgeons,” reads a summary on the show’s official website. “But family ties keep her glued to her Southside roots. To pay off her brother's life-threatening gambling debt, she makes a deal with the devil and agrees to work 'off book' for the mafia men she once despised.”

In a trailer on the same site, Devlin faces a crisis when she is ordered to kill a witness in a testimony against a crime lord, with her and her brother’s lives threatened if she fails to comply.

Spiro is probably best known for playing the lead in the 2006-2010 TBS series “My Boys,” which was also set in Chicago. Her costars in "The Mob Doctor" include James Carpinello, William Forsythe, Zach Gilford, Jaim Lee Kirchner and Jesse Lee Soffer. The series is the product of executive producers Josh Berman (CSI, Bones) and Rob Wright (Charmed, Crossing Jordan.)

It is unknown which cast and crew members from the series were on-site at the former Flame on Wednesday.

"The Mob Doctor" is scheduled to premiere at 8:00 p.m. Central time on Monday, Sept. 17 on FOX.
