House Hunt: Five Ranch Homes for Sale in the Village

We're living close to the ground this week and eschewing the tyranny of second and (gasp) third floors as we look at ranch-style houses current for sale in the Village.

So, apparently building ranch-style houses was a huge thing in the 1950s, and Wikipedia backs me up on this. Really, we found five ranch houses for sale in Western Springs that we'd never profiled before and four out of five were built in the same two-year span, from 1956-1957. Perhaps baby-boom families were afraid of heights?

Or perhaps they just found second stories to be superfluous, and knew how to make the most out of ground levels. Ranch homes are so-named for their resemblence to, well, homes built on actual ranches, so if you yearn for an era of cattle-wrangling and ten-gallon hats, these homes may appeal!
