WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – First United Methodist Church of Western Springs, which merged with its Hinsdale counterpart last year, is set to be replaced by three houses, according to village records.

The Western Springs congregation at 4300 Howard Ave., which formed in 1888, had experienced a decline in membership, hurting its ability to continue its ministry work, according to an October letter to the village from the Hinsdale United Methodist Church.

In April, the two churches agreed on the merger, which took effect a month later. Church leaders determined the Western Springs property was no longer needed.

In September, the merged church is on track to sell the Western Springs site to Fairfield Properties LLC.

The developer plans to build a traditional parkway with a sidewalk on Howard Avenue and do away with the angled parking.
