Photo Gallery: D101 Summer Organic Gardening Class

District 101 students are learning various gardening skills as they replant and tend to the various and ever-expanding organic plots outside Field Park Elementary in Western Springs.

The bright-green  garden plots got a lettuce replanting on Tuesday courtesy of kindergarten through second-grade District 101 students in the school's summer Organic Gardening and Cooking class, while middle-school students in the same class replanted tomatoes on trellises in a newer plot closer to the school itself.

Field Park has already harvested a crop of strawberries and mint, which local luminary chef Paul Virant used to show students grades 3-5 in last week's class how to make mint crepes. On Wednesday, guest chefs from Whole Foods will arrive to teach the class new cooking techniques using the organic fruits and veggies that the school grows in its garden.
