What Should Go in the Former Book Rack?

In this week's Vision's for Vacancies, the former used-book store at 1062 Hillgrove Avenue: within the restrictions placed on the building, what might fit there?

Bibliophiles Village-wide mourned when the Book Rack, Western Springs' nearly four-decade-old discount used-book store, . Since the shelves and tomes cleared out, the storefront at the corner of Hillgrove and Woodland Avenues has stood empty, awaiting a tenant.

There are a few restrictions on what can go in the space, however. Debbie Dixon, of , said she's heard clamor for something like a hot-dog stand, or other small food parlor—but it couldn't happen because there would be too much disruption to other longtime business tenants in the same connected building.

"I’d love to see something like [the Book Rack] go in there again," Dixon said. “There’s ample parking; it’s a great location in downtown Western Springs. I think most people would like to see retail there.”
