WHEATON, IL — The vacant McDonald's building on Roosevelt Road in Wheaton may soon be replaced by a 4,800 square foot car wash. The city's planning and zoning board was set to review a special use permit Tuesday evening.

According to city documents, the Mister Car Wash location would comprise a business office, a car wash tunnel, 21 vacuum stations for customers and three parking spaces for employees. Petitioners have proposed an eight foot wall near the end of the car wash tunnel to help mitigate noise from the car wash and vacuums.

One condition city staff has requested from petitioners is the installation of silencers on the car wash's drying blowers.

Another wrote, "I just wanted to express as a resident that we don't really don't need another car wash locally. That corner needs some quality fast food restaurants. Panera, Chipotle, 5 Guys...anything."

The Planning & Zoning Board was set to discuss the special use permit request Tuesday at 7 p.m.
