WHEATON, IL — A Dekalb woman faces felony charges after police say she fled a traffic stop with her 12-year-old daughter in the car while under the influence of alcohol. Brittany Getter, 33, was charged with endangering the health or life of a child, DUI and aggravated fleeing and eluding in connection with the incident.

Police say they tried to pull over Getter's Ford Escape near the intersection of Roosevelt and Washington around 1:25 a.m. after they clocked it going 76 mph in a 35 mph zone. Officers reported that Getter did not pull over, which led to a pursuit in which "Getter disobeyed multiple traffic control devices" and evaded spike strips by driving the wrong way on North Avenue, per a news release.

According to police, a SWAT team was called to remove Getter from her car after she refused to get out. Prosecutors say Getter's daughter was in the car's backseat. They also reported finding a half-full bottle of Don Julio tequila and two small bags of cannabis.

"It is alleged that Ms. Getter not only fled from police at an extremely high rate of speed after she had been drinking, but did so with her young daughter in the back seat," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

He added, "The behavior alleged in this case is irresponsible and reckless on multiple levels and put not only the motoring public at risk, but also Ms. Getter and her daughter. We are all grateful that no one was injured as a result of the defendant’s alleged actions."
