Fake Facebook Account Poses As DuPage Sheriff's Office

Officials say the account is posing as the sheriff's office to steal personal information from residents.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — A fake Facebook page for the DuPage County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has been attempting to get information from residents, according to an alert from DCSO.

The alert, which was shared on Dec. 29, urges residents to use caution when interacting with profiles that appear to be the DCSO. The Facebook page for the sheriff's office has some 29,000 followers and features a cover photo of the DCSO campus, whereas the fake account may have around 400 followers and no photo, per the alert.

DCSO wrote, "This fake profile is trying to gain access to your personal information. If you see this account, do not engage with it. To ensure you're following the correct page, double-check the number of followers and the profile photo."
