Over 50 False Tax Returns Filed By Winfield Man: Feds

WINFIELD, IL — A Winfield tax preparer faces federal charges after he was accused of filing more than 50 fraudulent tax returns over a five-year period.

Cedrick Taylor, 40, was charged with filing false tax returns for himself and willfully preparing false tax returns for others.

Per an indictment, Taylor filed 45 returns for others with tax credits that were misrepresented or overstated. He is also accused of filing six of his own tax returns that underreported his income or falsely represented tax credits.

The incidents took place between 2018 and 2023, per a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
