Phone Scammers Pose As Wheaton Police

Police are warning residents in Wheaton to beware of scam calls.

WHEATON, IL — A new phone scam has been circulating in Wheaton, in which callers pose as members of the Wheaton Police Department.

City officials say "several residents" have gotten calls from individuals who say they are affiliated with the Wheaton Police Department or the police department's union. The callers usually request donations or another form of payment.

In a news release, city officials reminded residents that Wheaton police will not call them to solicit funds or donations. Residents are urged not to share personal information and to report such calls to the Wheaton Police Department.
