Deputy Dies After Semi Rear-Ends Sheriff's Vehicle: IL State Police
The DeKalb County Sheriff's deputy died of injuries she sustained in the crash Thursday night.

DEKALB COUNTY, IL — The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department is in mourning after one of their deputies was killed in a crash in the line of duty Thursday night.
"It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I am announcing that Deputy Christina Musil, 35 years of age, was killed in the line of duty when her vehicle was struck from behind," DeKalb County Sheriff Andy Sullivan said in a news release.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash, which happened just before 10:40 p.m. on Route 23 south of Perry Road near Waterman.

Officials said Musil was in her vehicle, which was parked on the right shoulder of southbound Route 23 when the Ford Explorer squad vehicle was struck from behind by a Kenworth truck that had run off the road.
Musil was taken to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Sullivan said Musil was a five-year veteran of the sheriff's office and served in the corrections and patrol divisions. She also served in the Army National Guard as a military police officer for four years and served in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.
Funeral arrangements are pending, the sheriff's office said.
