'Campground Animal Bite' Conspiracy Theories Run Wild

Yorkville folks offered their own theories to what - or who- may have caused the bite. Turns out, it was just a dog.

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, IL — Around 7 a.m. Monday, Kendall County's Police scanner released the following information: An animal bite left a man unconscious and losing a lot of blood at Hideaway Lakes. Officials did not know what the animal was.

By noon, the post had been shared over 50 times with almost a hundred comments. Many people speculated what the animal could have been. Suggestions included a dog, a mountain lion, a coyote, or even a bear. A few jokes ensued. But the original message turned out to be inaccurate, according to Oswego Fire Protection District Battalion Chieff Jeff Warren.

He said that scanner message only reflects what the caller said. He told Patch that the victim suffered a "minor bite" on the hand, and the animal was gone by the time the ambulance responded.

A press release from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office given Monday evening said that officers responded to the call around 6:40 a.m. A 33-year-old resident had been bitten by his brother's dog while inside his home, police said.

He was treated at Rush0Copley Hospital. The incident occurred at the 8000 block of Van Emmon in unincorporated Yorkville.

The man was transported to the hospital, but there was not "a lot of blood" loss as initially indicated, police said.
