Man With Gun Surrenders After 4-Hour Standoff With Kendall Cops

Deputies were responding to a report of a single-vehicle crash when they encountered a man with a gun, police said.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — A man who was armed with a handgun surrendered without incident Tuesday after a four-hour standoff with Kendall County deputies, police said. Just after 1:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the area of Little Rock Road and Vilmin Road in unincorporated Little Rock Township.

Deputies and officers from the Plano Police Department located the vehicle, which was occupied by 45-year-old John Kvicky of Somonauk. Police said Kvicky was armed with a handgun and refused police orders to exit his vehicle.

After a four-hour standoff, police said negotiators were able to convince Kvicky to surrender, and he was taken into custody by the Kendall County Special Response Team and transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
