Millington Road Bridge Fate Discussed In Public Meeting

Kendall County Highway Department will discuss the plan in detail Nov. 13.

YORKVILLE, IL — Changes to the Millington Road bridge over Fox River will be discussed in a public information meeting Nov. 13. Improvements will include a temporary causeway, temporary support systems at each pier, more support during removal and replacement of the piers, and lining parts of the river's edge with rocks, an erosion blocking method called riprap. The Kendall County Highway Department is giving public notice for the meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. in the county board room 201 at 111 W. Fox St.

Currently, a 14-mile detour is in place to avoid the Millington Road Bridge, which has been closed since May 1 due to findings of scour. Bridge scour is when sediment is removed from the base of piers. According to a press release from Kendall County, "a spring/summer 2018 schedule of reconstruction of the bridge piers is anticipated to reopen the bridge to the traveling public," eliminating the detour.
