DEKALB, IL — Nearly a week after the fatal crash, Illinois State Police have announced charges against a DeKalb man in the death of a DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputy.

Deputy Christina Musil, 35, a five-year veteran of the sheriff's department and a mother of three, was sitting in her parked squad vehicle on the shoulder of Route 23 near Waterman when state police say a semi ran off the road and slammed into the back of her Ford Explorer.

The driver of the truck, 44-year-old Nathan P. Sweeney, was initially cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane use and operating an uninsured vehicle.
