Top 10 Illinois Colleges for Return on Investment for 2016

Graduates from these 10 Illinois colleges are getting the most bang for their buck.

As college costs rise and Illinois universities are left without state funding for the tenth month, Illinoisans might be looking for a school that’s worth all the student debt they could be taking on.

While a college degree still gives graduates a boost in their future earnings, PayScale’s 2016 Return on Investment Report shows not all colleges — or majors — give students the same bang for their buck once they graduate. It studied 78,500 college-educated American workers and the 20-year return on investment on their degrees based on the current cost of each school.

Overall, engineering and public schools turned out students who would get the largest return on their investment after graduation. However, there were some factors students couldn’t control; the study also found college students from wealthy families had greater earning potential once they finished school, regardless of experience level, job level or the type of college they attended.
