Winter Travel Preparedness, Tips: Kendall Co. Sheriff's Office

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office advises community members to be prepared for winter weather travel.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL β€” Unless you haven't seen the outdoors this week, heavy snow already arrived weeks before the first "official" day of winter next month. Because of this, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office and Kendall County Emergency Management Agency want community members to prepare for future storms, just like the most recent one.

  • Make sure your vehicle is full of gas prior to traveling (if you must drive).
  • Make sure your cell phone is charged and you have a charger with you.
  • Pack a winter weather kit containing blankets or sleeping bags, a flashlight with extra batteries, first aid kit, water, food, extra clothing, tool kit, shovel, battery booster cables, compass, sand or cat litter for traction, and road maps.
  • Make sure a family member or trusted friend knows where you're going, the route you plan to take, and tell them when you're leaving and plan to return.
