Woman Suing Police For Excessive Force Charged For Bad Check
Charlene Johnson, 72, was arrested Feb. 8 after police said she wrote a bad $500 check to a local business.

YORKVILLE, IL — A Yorkville woman who is suing the city and two of its police officers for excessive force has been charged with deceptive practices, according to a news release from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office. Charlene Johnson, 72, was arrested Feb. 8 after police said she wrote a bad $500 check to a local business.
The business had enrolled in the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office's Bad Checks Program, which is designed to address such issues without criminal charges. But police say Johnson failed to comply with the program.
She was released on $2,500 bond pending trial.

Johnson had accused Yorkville police of using a Taser on her son during an alleged illegal arrest which led to the suspension of one officer and the firing of another. Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart called the officers' behavior "completely unacceptable." In that incident, Johnson was charged with resisting arrest, but both she and her son were later cleared of all charges.
