Carmel HS Coach Facing Charges For Relationship With Minor

According to police John C. Goelz and one of the young woman he coached had a sexual relationship which included public acts.

CARMEL, IN — A Carmel High School swim coach is in custody, facing federal charges for sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography in a case that's reported to involve one of his athletes. WTHR reported John C. Goelz, 29, was arrested on July 3 and will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. According to the news report, law enforcement were informed last month that the coach might have been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a female athlete, and officers say text messages sent between Goelz and the minor victim pointed to a sexual relationship.

Furth investigation found that Goelz and the athlete were involved in a sexual relationship and had sex at a number of places including public parks in Hamilton County and an Anderson hotel. WTHR says according to officials, Goelz filmed the activity at the hotel.

“Those we put trust in to supervise and coach our children cannot be allowed to take advantage of them and will face tough federal prosecution," said U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler, according to WTHR.
