Carmel scored the highest of any city in Indiana. Fishers, Indiana, came in 8th place. All of the cities on the Safewise list have violent crime rates more than 3 times lower than the national average, according to the report.

“We are thrilled to once again be mentioned as one of the safest places to live in America, something that our Police Department works hard to achieve on a number of levels. Not only law enforcement, but the City as a whole works very hard to make sure Carmel is a great place to raise a family. This most recent survey is proof that we are on the right track and we continue to be the best place to live in America … period,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.

According to the report, choosing to live in a safe city lowers your risk significantly. Compared to the safest cities, the most dangerous cities saw these stats (per 1,000 people): Nearly nine times more sex offenders, 10 times more violent crime rates and more than four times as many property crimes.
