INDIANAPOLIS — Wind gusts exceeding 40 mph were to blame Wednesday night for thousands of power outages in Central Indiana.

"Indianapolis Power & Light reported more than 3,800 customers without power shortly before 10 p.m.," said a Wish TV report. "One of the largest outages involving more than 1,400 customers on the city’s southeast side had been resolved by 10 p.m."

Outages had reached more than 5,400 earlier in the evening, more than 100 of which were in the Carmel area.
